date a live II- episode 4-(7/10)

yamai twins, spirit form ,date a live season 2, episode 4, anime berserk

Intro

This week on Date a Live, the twins get sealed, airships aren't just for heroes, and Shido gets to take some cool powers for a ride on Cybric’s Corner.

Last year's harem action comedy has been hard at work in the offseason and it shows.

When Date A Live aired last summer I thought that it was going to be a clone of the show “The World That Only God Knows” and would seek to capitalize on that shows presence and audience but DAL has been coming into it’s own.

Synopsis of Episode 4

The hero Shido still must seal spirits that arrive on Earth by dating them and making them fall in love with him so that they don’t cause giant nuclear bomb-sized “Spatial Quakes” which rip the fabric of reality when the spirit gets super upset or when they have stayed on Earth unsealed for some time.

The twins attempt to seduce Shido
Leading up to this episode the spirits Kaguya and Yuzuru have been competing with each other for some time.

They were originally one spirit that somehow was split into two personalities and bodies. The winner of this competition gets to absorb the other and become the dominant spirit once more.

As their 100th and final competition the Yamai Sisters, as they have been called, decide that the deciding contest would be to seduce Shido. Throughout the episode comedic innuendo ensues and Shido has to balance showing affection to either one less the other one go berserk and causing an above-mentioned spatial quake.

After attempting to outdo the other one each girl confides in Shido that they want the other sister to survive and are prepared to sacrifice themselves so that they will be absorbed.

Eventually, the sisters learn that each had confided in Shido leaving them to resort to a duel with full spirit powers in play. They summon cyclones and fight with lances and chain spears and all kinds of fun combat takes place.

Will they make it out alive?

Meanwhile, Shido has been ambushed by a new secret shadow organization that seems bent on capturing spirits for some presumably dark purpose.

Tohku is taken prisoner but somehow Shido is able to summon Tohku’s giant sword, which should be impossible for a human, and defeats the ambushers. This is a pretty big event in the series as no one other than the spirits have been shown as able to use spirit weapons let alone summon those weapons from nothing.

Perhaps it is linked to being sealed by Shido that he can now use their weapons but it hasn't been explained and is one of the series mysteries for now.

Ending

The Yamai sisters are stopped by Shido at the final moment and they decide to find a way for everyone to live. Three then share a kiss, sealing their spirit powers and saving the day. All and all season two is coming together well I think.

There is always a fear that the second season won't perform as well as the first but Date A Live season two has kept up the comedy and I’m expecting more of the same to come.
